When deciding the first real lifestyle topic, it was an easy pick. It is April and Earth Day on April 22.
Sustainability has always been important to me. I'm an electrician's daughter so I grew up around light bulbs and commercial job sites. In 2008, my family's business ventured into renewable energy services like selling/installing residential wind turbines and SunPower solar panels. I want to leave this place in a better place and what better way than to start yesterday.
For Earth Day, Cooks' Emporium is creating change by switching to recycled kraft bags instead of plastic bags and swapping out old light bulbs with LED light bulbs. We are also reducing the amount of paper we use in-store. When it comes to our cash register, it now asks how customers would like their receipt with text, email and no receipt options, compliments of Square for Retail POS systems. I'm also reducing the amount of paper with purchase orders, everyone is on direct deposit with email stubs and no paper during our store closing procedures.
I'm also becoming very cautious with the types of companies and products that I'm doing business with. I've brought in a few new lines, like Full Circle and Puracy. Full Circle is interesting because they stand for Safe For You, Earth Friendly, Responsible Living, Replaceable, and Intentional Design products. Puracy is fantastic because they create products that is better for your family, the environment and better for the community with giving back. They create safe and stylish natural household products that work... really well.
So what are you doing this Earth Day?
P.S. Shoutout to Nevada High School for helping with the downtown clean up on April 20!! That's awesome and appreciated!!
